Way early ice-out could mean more weeds

Early ice-out on Big Swan Lake that is one to two months ahead of normal, coupled with current low water levels, is likely to mean an increased crop of weeds in the lake. Jim Strohmeier of Aquatic Solutions, who will do our association’s offshore curlyleaf pondweed treatment this spring, has offered to do shoreline weed treatments, too, provided at least 15 to 20 property owners sign up. He sent out sign-up information a few weeks ago, but so far has gotten replies from an insufficient number of residents to make it economically feasible for him.

In case you missed his mailing, attached is the information he sent out. The mild weather also is moving up the timetable for weed surveying and treatment, so he would appreciate responses as soon as possible.
